Music Festival Hairstyles

There’s no denying that summer and music festivals are a match made in heaven just like peanut butter and jelly. With the biggest festivals in Ontario, including Veld, Boots & Hearts and Hillside to name a few, just around the corner, we’re buzzing with excitement for a festival-filled summer!

When it comes to music festivals, obviously the music comes first, but planning the perfect outfit and having the perfect hairstyles for the event is a close second in our books.

Music festivals aren’t about fitting in, they’re about standing out and experimenting with styles you maybe wouldn’t try in the real world. That’s why we’ve put together our top 7 favourite festival hairstyles below for you to try out.

1. Boho Waves

We will start with one of the safer hairstyles to ease you into what exactly we mean when we say “experiment”. When it comes to bohemian-inspired waves, you can’t really go wrong with them since they are just the right amount of messy. The style allows you to look put together enough while giving off that cool and effortless “I woke up like this” vibe.

Bonus: This style is super easy to create! When you curl your hair in different sections, scrunch the curls as they are cooling down. This ensure that they don’t set too neatly, creating that messy look.

If you want to take this trend to the next level, add some hair extensions for instant length and volume. Complete the look by adding in the ever so popular flower crown and you’re ready for a day of rocking!

2. Boho Fishtail Pigtails

Feel like you’re ready for a more exciting look than the boho waves? That’s what the boho fishtail pigtails style was created for. Maybe you’re a sweet girl but looking for a little bit of edge to add to your festival hairdo. This is the look for you.

You already know how to create the boho waves, now it’s just taking those pieces and splitting them into two fishtails braids to create pigtails. Pull out some of the sections and pieces around your face for that messy look or string some flowers through each braid to create an even more wild child look.

3. Fishtail Ponytail

Looking for a hairstyle that’s stylish yet functional for festivals? The fishtail ponytail is it! Not only does this style take a boring ponytail to the next level, it simultaneously keeps you cool during those sticky days by keeping your hair off your face and neck.

To create this look all you need to know is how to put your hair into a ponytail and then make a fishtail braid. To fluffen up the braid (yes, we like to make up words in the hair industry), just pull some of the sections of the braid loose.

Similar to the boho fishtail pigtails, you can add a string of flowers through the braid to really create those hippie vibes.

4. French Braids

Also known as “Double-Dutch Braids,” this look is still as trendy as ever, especially for music festivals due to how practical yet cute it is. If you’re like us, you like to dance the days away at the festivals and this style is the perfect way to make your hair stay put even in the hot and dusty weather conditions.

Feeling a little daring? Try creating this style in a triple or even quadruple version! Plus, if you sleep with these braids in at the end of the night, if you get any sleep, you’ll have beautiful, heatless beachy waves come morning. An easy yet perfect do for the next day of the festival.

5. Hair Clips

Not a fan of all the braided hairstyles? Running short on time to get ready before your favourite band hits the stage? No problem! Lucky for you, and us, and everyone really, hair clips have made a major comeback! All you need is a couple of clips, or even bobby pins, and 1 minute to take your hair from blah to bombshell.

With the ability to wear them in so many different ways, hair clips are one of this season’s hottest hair accessories. Be sure to check out Ardenes, Forever 21, and Urban Planet’s hair clip selections so that you have all the variety you need to rock the clip look all festival long.

6. Hair Rings

Take the hair clip accessory one step further with the up and coming trend of hair rings. You can’t go wrong when it comes to flower crowns, but I think we can all agree they are beginning to get a little cliché and overrated (sorry Vanessa Hudgens).

To spice up your look, put some braids in your hair and add these rings to them. There’s no better place than a music festival to experiment with hair accessories and jewellery. Go even crazier and add some glitter.

7. Pull-Through Braid

Looking for another twist on the ponytail that looks even better but is still practical enough for those days spent out in the sun dancing nonstop until you drop? Say hello to the pull-through braid. The major bonus for this look is it doesn’t require any hot tools to create it.

Feel like you’ve been there and done that with the pull-through braid? Try this side pull-through braid for something a little different yet still chic for the festival days. You’ll even have Elsa jealous of you for taking her look to new heights.

Hopefully you have at least 7 days’ worth of musical festivals to attend this summer so that you can try and, we’re positive when we say, rock the above hairstyles.
