One of the most common questions we receive though is what exactly is microblading. Our beauty technicians are here to open your eyes to fuller looking eyebrows with everything you need to know about this popular beauty trend by answering all of your common questions.

What is microblading?

Microblading is a type of eyebrow architecture all about creating the best shape for your face, making it a totally customized approach and experience for each client. The microblading process is very precise thanks to the tool that is used which is effectively like a pen with the nib being a sloped blade with 10-12 little needles at the end. These needles very finely implant featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermis layer for the skin, creating fine, realistic and natural hair strokes.

How does microblading differ from tattoos?

Microblading, unlike tattooing, is not in the deep layer of the skin, but more on the surface. It’s also not permanent and the colour fades within 18 months or so. The hair strokes are far more natural and finer than any tattoo which is what makes more of a scratching noise rather than a buzz.

How much does microblading cost?

All of our microblading treatments include an initial consultation, application and touch up starting at $350.00. After the initial consultation and gaining a better understanding of what works best for your face, we are able to put together a more accurate quote.

What’s the need for a touch up and when does this happen?

The touch up session happens after 4 – 6 weeks. This allows our technicians to assess the first session and add in any further strokes or add a darker pigment if preferred.

What happens after the microblading?

We will provide you with thorough after care instructions to follow. It’s important to avoid any picking or scratching as your eyebrows will start to heal over, much like a tattoo, which may cause some irritation but is totally normal.

In the next 10 days or so, your eyebrows will change colour, might become flaky and look like they’ve faded but again, this is totally normal. They’ll reveal their final colour and shape after about 30 days.

What shape should I go for?

We always encourage clients to bring images of the style of brow they like, or bring their brow makeup they normally wear on a day-to-day basis to help our experts determine what colour and shape would work best for your face.

To get the right colour we take a look at your hair colour, eye colour and skin tone taking into account how your skin may change with sun exposure to ensure the correct colour pigment choice. To get the right shape we measure up your eyebrows using a microblading ruler.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading lasts anywhere between 12 – 18 months, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type. People with slightly more oily skin will tend to last around the 12 month mark before needing another touch up, but those with normal skin can last up to 18 months.

Your brows will eventually fade away if you don’t continue with touch ups every 18 months or so. There is no scarring or discolouration with the pigments used, so you wouldn’t know if you left them to fade out.

Does microblading hurt?

This is another very common question we get. The answer is that it’s really more of a sensation rather than a painful kind of hurt. The process itself is not painful thanks to the numbing ointment that is applied.

Sometimes it’s just the sound of the blade which people find to be the scariest part. The whole process is quite quick with the numbing process taking about an hour and the actual needing process taking about an hour.
